IN JEREZ AND EL PUERTO DE SANTA MARIA.

THE REMOTE SENSING APPLIED TO THE CULTURE OF THE VINEYARD

In the Regulatory Council of Wines of Jerez, Messr. Pedro Duque and Alfonso Barreiro presented a pioneering system of remote sensing applied to grape and vine growing, a key the applications of the first satellite developed by Deimos Imaging, (with only Spanish capital) to be launched next year. The President of the Regulatory Council, Mr. Jorge Pascual, said that “the application of this vanguard technique will be a step in the control of the vineyard and in the search of quality. The millenarian tradition of wines of Jerez does not rule out modernity”. What Deimos Imaging offered is the possibility of controlling the vines, their evolution and state in addition to the content in sugar or nitrogen that there is in the soil via the interpretation of the images obtained the satellite, thus offering control similar to that done on the ground by observing and testing each vine. Mr. Pedro Duque stated that this technology offers multiple reading as the Deimos I satellite will pass overhead repeatedly. Deimos Imaging not only captures and downloads the images but produces detailed reports on the state of different crops.

Mr. Pedro Duque with other members of Deimos had dinner in the Hotel Monasterio, in El Puerto de Santa María, with the Mayor of the city and other authorities.

Mr. Pedro Duque signed several casks at the cellar of Caballero Group and Osborne Group, both located at El Puerto de Santa María, and a cask in the cellars of Domeq Group in Jerez Itself.
