Deimos-1 is monitoring the aftermath of Hurricane Irma and captured South Florida yesterday, September 12th.
The image above, captured by Deimos-1, shows the entire city.
In addition, the video below shows the south-easternmost part of the Miami-Dade County, South Florida, captured by Deimos-1 before and after the devastation caused by Irma.
The images of the video were processed combining the near infrared, red and green bands, a traditional band combination very useful to see changes in plants’ health, in which vegetation appears red. The denser vegetation grows and the more chlorophyll the plants have, the more intense is the red color. In this case, this band combination allowed an easier differentiation between vegetation-covered soil and flooded areas.
