DEIMOS-2 captured burnt shelters at the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Protection of Civilians (PoC) site in Bentiu, South Sudan. The multitemporal animation below shows the site before and after the two separate outbreaks of fire that destroyed 117 shelters on March 24th. There were no resulting deaths or injuries.
According to UNMISS declarations, “as soon as the fire was reported, an integrated team consisting of members of the UN Police, the Ghanaian Formed Police Unit, Mongolian and Ghanaian military troops and UN Security responded swiftly. They controlled the fire, and kept people safely away from it.”
As of March 30th, 2017, a total of number of civilians seeking safety in this PoC site is 117,654 in Bentiu.
