Houston flooding captured by Deimos-1 and Deimos-2

Deimos-1 and Deimos-2 captured the catastrophic flooding that Harvey caused in the Greater Houston metropolitan area.

The image above, captured by Deimos-1, shows the entire city.

The video below shows the Greater Houston area captured by Deimos-1 before and after the devastation caused by Harvey. The images were processed combining the near infrared, red and green bands, a traditional band combination very useful to see changes in plants’ health, in which vegetation appears red. The denser vegetation grows and the more chlorophyll the plants have, the more intense is the red color. In this case, this band combination allowed an easier differentiation between vegetation-covered soil and flooded areas.

This very high resolution image, captured by Deimos-2 shows Addicks Reservoir and its surroundings after the overspill caused by the heavy rains.

And this one, also captured by Deimos-2 and processed including the near-infrared channel, shows the destruction on Interstate 69 near Humble, Texas, which is located northeast of Houston.
