Cyprus Island, the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, is a renowned vacation hotspot, complete with wineries and picturesque beaches.
Located at the island’s southernmost point is Limassol Salt Lake, in the towns of Akrotiri and Dhekela, both British Overseas Territories. In fact, the airport at the bottom of the first image is a UK Royal Air Force base (RAF Akrotiri).
Every year, up to 20,000 pink flamingos flock to Limassol to feast on the Lake’s bounty of brine shrimp.
Limassol Salt Lake is one of the Mediterranean region’s most important wetlands.
