Mount Etna eruption caught by DEIMOS-2

DEIMOS-2 captured Mount Etna erupting and spewing lava on Saturday, March 18. Located in the Italian island of Sicily, this is Europe’s highest and most active volcano.

The volcano erupted for the second time this month on March 15, injuring at least 10 people and ejecting lava and rocks up to 200 meters into the air.

Deimos-2 data can be used to detect real-time volcanic activity and the various phenomena associated with it including lava flows and ground fissures.
