This image shows the city of Alexandria located in the North of Egypt, in the Nile river delta. The city extention is about 32 km along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea in the north central part of Egypt. Alexandria is Egypt’s largest seaport, serving approximately 80% of Egypt’s imports and exports. Alexandria was founded in 331 BC by Alexander the Great. It became an important center of the Hellenistic civilization and remained the capital of Hellenistic, Roman and Byzantine Egypt, until the Muslim conquest of in AD 641.
