Project Description

DEIMOS-1 Image of the Week (acquired 5/10/2015): Columbia river crops

This false color imagery shows agricultural fields along the Columbia river, located between the Oregon and Washington state borders, USA. DEIMOS-1 imagery can be used in a variety of Precision Agriculture (PA) applications including: drought assessment, crop management (e.g. crop type analysis and crop status assessment), crop insurance, grazing management (e.g. livestock stocking rate, grass availability, overstocking risk). DEIMOS-1 has been designed especially for PA applications, and it has quickly become one of the leading sources for PA applications worldwide. This is confirmed each year since 2011 by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), which uses DEIMOS-1 and its twin DMC-2 data to monitor the evolution of more than 100 types of crops nationwide, and to produce its annual 30-m Cropland Data Layers which classifies all types of crops in the US.
