Project Description

DEIMOS-1 Image of the week (acquired 8/11/2015): Lake Frome

Lake Frome, a large shallow depression located in northeastern South Australia, is pictured in this image. The lake is 100 km long and 48 km wide. Although is intermittently filled with water, the area basins are mostly dry saltpans. It is the southernmost salt lake northeast of the Flinders Range and its origin derive from a larger ancestral Lake Eyre. The water levels of the lake depends on the fluctuating heavy rains in the northern Flinders or an overflow from Lake Callabonna.
