DEIMOS-1 Image of the Week (acquired on 17/04/2016): Iraq’s crops
This false colour image image shows agricultural structures in Iraq. The false colour makes vegetation look mostly red and allows for better discrimination between different vegetation types than true colour images. This is helpful when satellite data are used in agricultural monitoring for mapping and classifying land use, crop type, crop health, change detection, irrigated landscape mapping and crop area mapping. The Deimos-1 mission with its wide swath and frequent revisits, shows how vegetation change during the growing season. Part of the Blue Tigris River is visible crossing the central image’s part. The scattered reds bordering the river denote dense vegetation.
