Project Description

DEIMOS-2 Image of the Week (acquired 15/2/2015): Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise park

This image is centered on the Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise park, located at the tip of Yokohama Bay in Kanazawa, one of the 18 districts of the city of Yokohama, in Japan. This new generation amusement park includes an aquarium, marina, hotel and a surf coaster. The coaster, visible at the image’s bottom, is the first in Japan that swings out over the ocean. Kanawaza is bordered to the east by Tokyo Bay, connected to the Pacific Ocean by the Uraga channel. The Tokyo Bay region is the most populous and largest industrialized area in Japan. In this area, on 2 September 1945, the Japanese Instrument of Surrender was signed on board of the USS Missouri, marking the end of World War II.
