This image pictures Space Launch Complex 4 (SLC-4), a launch and landing site at Vandenberg Air Force Base (AFB), California, USA. SLC-4 consists of two pads, SLC-4E and SLC-4W, both of which are used by SpaceX for Falcon 9 launch operations. On January 17, SpaceX launched a Falcon 9 v1.1 from SLC-4E at Vandenberg AFB carrying the Jason-3 environmental satellite. Jason-3 is the fourth mission in US-European series of satellite missions that measure the height of the ocean surface. The primary instrument on Jason-3 is a radar altimeter which will measure sea-level variations over the ocean with very high accuracy.
