DEIMOS-2 Image of the Week (acquired on 19/9/2015): Tel Aviv White City
The outstanding architectural ensemble of the White City in Tel Aviv, Israel, is featured in this image. The White City was constructed from the early 1930s until the 1950s reflecting modern organic planning principles. The White City of Tel Aviv can be seen as an extraordinary example in a large scale of the innovative town-planning ideas of the first part of the 20th century. The architecture is a synthetic representation of some of the most significant trends of Modern Movement. The White City’s design was adapted to the specific climatic conditions and to local cultural traditions of the site. Tel Aviv’s White City was declared in 2003 World Heritage Site by UNESCO, as an outstanding example of new town planning and architecture in the early 20th century.
