The solar thermal energy plants located in Sanlucar la Mayor, Seville (Spain), owned and operated by Abengoa Solar, are featured in this image.
The PS10 (left) and PS20 (right) solar power plants and its tower systems are clearly visible. Operated since 2003, the PS10 was the world’s first commercial concentrating solar tower with 10 MW of power. In 2008, was added an additional tower system, the PS20, with 20 MW of power. PS20 was the world’s most powerful solar power tower until the Ivanpah Solar Power Facility in California (USA) became operational in 2014. Tower systems are based on Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) technology. The advantages of concentrating solar power (CSP) technology compared to other renewable technologies is its capacity to store energy efficiently, which makes it possible to generate electricity at peak times.
